What is a Rotary Drying System?

Rotary dryer introduction

rotary dryer

The rotary dryer, often called a drum dryer, works like a charm in drying materials. It’s like giving your wet clothes a warm hug until they’re dry.

Imagine the inside of the drum getting warm and then sharing that warmth with the outer part, especially where the materials are.

As this happens, the wetness in the materials just vanishes into thin air, making this dryer a top-notch choice for non-stop drying tasks.

What is the Working Principle of Rotary Drying?

The drum of the rotary dryer is a tilted, spinning cylinder. Wet materials go in from one end, and by the time they reach the other end, they’re dry. Warm air flows in either from the beginning or the end, and exits from the top of the opposite side.

Inside the drum, there’s a plate that moves forward, causing the materials to constantly shift up and down as the drum turns. This ensures they get plenty of exposure to the warm air, boosting the drying speed and helping the materials progress through the drum.

Typically, the heat for drying comes from sources like warm air, high-temperature exhaust gases, or steam.

Here’s how the drum dryer works: Materials and liquids set to be dried flow from a higher tank into the drum dryer’s receiving area. A device spreads the material thinly over the drum’s surface, and inside the drum, there’s a heating element.

In just one spin of the drum, the material undergoes processes like spreading, vaporizing, and dehydrating. Once dried, a scraper removes the material, which then spirals into a storage tank. From there, it’s either crushed or packed directly.

Any moisture that evaporates during this process is either captured using a hood, if it’s dusty, or released, depending on its characteristics.

What is the Speed of a Rotary Dryer?

Rotary dryers, sometimes referred to as drum dryers, have a drum that spans several meters in length and is about 2 meters wide. This drum leans slightly, with an angle ranging from 3–4° off the horizontal, and it rotates at speeds between 2-8 RPM. Notably, the rotation speed can vary based on the specific model of the rotary dryer you choose.

Rotary Dryer Use in Briquette Machine?

The primary purpose of the rotary drum dryer is to assist in the second phase of the briquette machine process. It helps regulate the moisture content of materials, keeping it within a desirable range of 6%-12%.

This ensures the subsequent steps run smoothly and enhances the efficiency and output of the briquette machine. However, during its operation, users might encounter issues, which can vary based on individual experiences.

Below, we delve into the characteristics of using the rotary drum dryer and offer basic solutions to common challenges.
